A few minutes later, my husband barged into the kitchen, “HOW are you listening to this?” He asked, a look of true horror on his face.
I stopped for a moment and actually took in the words playing in the background as the soundtrack to my cooking... a particularly grisly episode of a true crime podcast.
I’m always listening to a podcast or an audiobook while cooking, doing laundry, walking my dog, or sometimes even just relaxing. There is something comforting to me about having voices in the background of my life. Listening to audio content is also a very efficient way to take in a lot of information. Probably a third of the books I read each year are audiobooks, and I listen to hours of true crime and fantasy football content in between books. True, sometimes I listen more intently than others. While cooking, it’s mostly background noise.
The two female podcasters continued discussing, “When her body was found...” Ryan looked from my phone, to me, to the knife in my hand, to the brisket, and back to me.
“We can switch it to music, I guess,” I shrugged, and returned to slicing.
