There will be many candidates- keep your interviews around 20 minutes.
The interviewer instruction email for today's job fair were optimistic. The start time came and went, and we all patiently waited, computers open, ready for our first interviews of the day.
Finally, a candidate appeared and was escorted into a room of waiting interviewers, at empty tables, looking up expectantly.
I flashed back to 2012 when I attended this very job fair and waited over 2 hours in line just to be seen. I remember waking up early to be one of the first candidates, walking up to the building 30 minutes before the fair's start time, and still, a line wrapped around the building when I arrived.
Maybe the check in process is slow, I thought. I peeked out into the hallway and down the stairs. There were no lines today.
Maybe they'll start coming a little later, I thought. The hours passed and still, we had only a few candidates.
By 12:00, tight smiles and worried eyes replaced the looks of optimism that were exchanged around the room at 8:00 am.
What are we going to do?
